I figured it was about time for me to write. Let’s see, well the things that are new are mostly with Maricarl. She goes to a caregiver class daily. Apparently, it is a position that is in demand all over the western world. In addition, starting in May she will begin a review for her teacher certification. It will be every weekend for nearly 5 months until the exam in September. The fact that most schools are not up to the task of preparing students for the test and that the test is sort of archaic and is purported to have some wrong answers makes this necessary. In spite of nearly all students taking a review class the national average for passing is at 26% and holding steady. She did not take a review for the last test because I showed up (last July) and took the test anyway and failed. It really bothered her that she failed so I dread how she will take it if she fails again after a review. In any case, I hope that she won’t have to deal with that.
I bought Marjun (5 yrs old) his first bike. He was ecstatic. The training wheels broke on the first day so he learned to ride without them. We wondered about the unusual wear on his slippers (flip-flops) until we discovered that the hand brakes gave up on day 3. He was braking ala Fred Flintstone. The basket fell off on day 4 and finally the chain broke on day 7. Whoopee. It was inexpensive and I learned a good lesson… even in a country where things cost less than what I’m used to, some things are just plain cheap in every way. So, I went out and found a decent bike and it turned out to be too big for him (oops) and since there is no return policy here it became Maricarl’s first bike. Back to the store for a smaller decent bike (made in the Czech Republic and not China). Total for my boy’s bike: about $145.00. Live and learn.
